North Korea threatens to shoot down Japanese Spy Planes

June 27th, 2009

North Korea has accused Japan of sending spy planes near it’s missile site and threatens that future missions will be shot down.

North Korea’s air force said Japan’s E-767 surveillance aircraft conducted aerial espionage near the Musudan-ri missile site on its northeast coast Wednesday and Thursday.

An official from Japan’s defense ministry said the country’s planes regularly gather information on North Korea but declined to comment on the types of planes used or the locations monitored.

Recently North Korea has complained of U.S. spy missions in its airspace, but rarely has complained about Japan.

North Korea threatens ‘fire shower’ of Nukes

June 25th, 2009

In it’s recent step-up in harsh rhetoric, North Korea has threatened a ‘fire shower’ of nuclear weapons if the US attacks and has vowed to increase it’s nuclear arsenal while US President Barack Obama extended economic sanctions on the currently highly volatile country for another year.

Meanwhile, a rally of an estimated 100,000 North Koreans in Pyongyang holding placards with symbols of war and hate toward the US; slogans including a missile with the US flag on.

Seeing as the only authorised protests in North Korea are to do with international criticisms/actions against North Korea, it is highly likely that the placards were issued and authorised from the top.

North Korea’s “armed forces will deal an annihilating blow that is unpredictable and unavoidable, to any ’sanctions’ or provocations by the US,” Pak Pyong Jong, first vice chairman of the Pyongyang City People’s Committee, told the crowd.

State-run newspapers ran lengthy editorials accusing the U.S. of invading the country in 1950 and of looking for an opportunity to attack again. The editorials said those actions justified North Korea’s development of atomic bombs to defend itself.

However, to be totally honest, the US Barack Obama was elected on a more anti-war and conservative election campaign and to go to war without first being struck would be highly out of character for the US President and one would expect high criticisms at home in the US, as bad as the situation in North Korea may be, but many people are not aware of the true character and puppet-masters of North Korea.

North Korean ‘Arms Shipment’ not for Burma

North Korea helps Burma build complex bunkers and tunnels.

North Korea helps Burma build complex bunkers and tunnels.

Burma says that the infamous North Korean ship, the Kang Nam 1, is not heading for it’s ports.

However, Burma will be receiving a shipment of rice from North Korea soon, they said.

Burma and North Korea severed ties when a botched North Korean assassination attempt in Burma killed 20 people, but in recent years they have been co-operating in various relatable fields. Both countries are isolated and sanctioned, but North Korea is more so.

It is known that North Korea ships arms to Burma and provides assistance with building complex bunkers and tunnels for the Burmese Military Junta.

The Kang Nam will be forced to refuel in Singapore and, under conditions of sanctions imposed on North Korea, Singapore may be faced with the dilemma of whether to inspect the ship or not – an act, North Korea views, as a declaration of war.

North Korea qualifies for the World Cup

June 19th, 2009

For the first time since the 1966 World Cup in England, North Korea has qualified.

The last time North Korea played in the World Cup it was rumoured that the players got drunk and ‘womanized’ and were therefore punished and sent to work in Coal Mines for their conduct. However, apparently, 7 are still alive and reportedly well.

It is always a wonder how the North Korean elite feel when their citizens (who are never allowed to leave the country) are allowed into a free, open, and more technologically advanced society.

Kim Jong-Il The Sadist

North Korea regularly performs public executions by firing squad

Beside the vocal aggression and somewhat sadism that comes out of North Korea, here is something I read on NKnet:

In North Korea, public execution, which has been infrequent due to international criticism, is happening again. In Pyongsung city, February 18, two officials from Ministry of Electric Industry were public shot to death. Their crime was shutting down electricity supply to Sungjin Steel Mill located in Kimchaek city in North Hankyong Province. At Sungjin Steel Mill, steel is rolled and sent to Kimchaek Iron Works, and then it is exported to China.

Kim Jong Il ordered the Ministry of Electric Industry, in December 2008, to redirect electricity from the steel mill to Pyongyang city. And two officials from the ministry followed the order, thus causing great damage to Sungjin Steel Mill. Sungjin Mill had been provided electricity barely enough to continue operation.

However, authorities, after hearing the reports from the Steel Mill, arrested the two officials on Feb. 18, and executed in two days.

North Korea preparing to launch more missiles

May 29th, 2009

It has been reported that US spy satellites have been witness to increased activity at the North Korean site that is used for long range missile tests and South Korean sources say that a long range missile was seen being transported by train near Pyongyang recently.

Recently, North Korea has tested a long range missile (potentially capable of reaching Alaska and Hawaii), several short range (capable of reaching Japan), and an underground nuclear explosion.

This comes amid extremely high tensions between the international community and North Korea. North Korea has been extremely aggressive with it’s words and, not so long ago, a US army general said the US was ready for a conventional war with North Korea.

US: No intention of taking military action against North Korea

May 29th, 2009

“We have no intention of taking military action against North Korea unless they do something that requires it
US Defense Secretary Robert Gates

This statement may confuse and possibly offend staunch DPRK opposers, because unpredictable North Korea wielding nuclear weapons and defying the international community by performing nuclear tests would be seen by some as more than enough reason

Take Iraq for example; Iraq had no nuclear weapons, hadn’t tested one, and some would argue wasn’t as brutal on it’s population as the regime in North Korea, but the US saw fit to oust Saddam by military force. Oh – forgot that was an oil war and personal vengence from the Bush’s (with love from Bush Snr.)

What does North Korea have to offer from the US liberating it’s population?

Besides, it bolsters US military presence in the Far East, which balances the region (militarily) with China. There’s no benefit for the US to liberate North Korea as it did Iraq even though North Korea wields Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological weapons, threatens the world, tests missiles that often coincide with high tension in the region, brutality to its populace and the apparent ‘re-education’ and labour camps that could be compared to Hitler’s concentration camps…

So no. No reason.

KCNA – The hardline voice of Kim Jong-Il

May 28th, 2009

The KCNA is the propaganda tool of North Korea

KCNA, the state-run North Korean news service which has its website’s domain name under the Japanese TLD (.co.jp), often pumps out aggressive, somewhat naive, and blatant propaganda. So let’s try to piece together recent KCNA news:

Our revolutionary armed forces, as they have already declared, will regard the Lee Myung Bak group of traitors’ “full participation” in the PSI as a declaration of war against the DPRK.

A sadist approach to what any conforming country would see as it’s international duty to prevent the trading of nuclear weapons.

They should bear in mind that the DPRK has tremendous military muscle

North Korea’s army wields an outdated arsenal; it’s fleet is technologically out-gunned by the South and the majority of it’s aircraft are from the 1950’s and 60’s. They also suffer from fuel shortages and cannot maintain effective training because of this.

The only ‘tremendous’ is the quantity of troops they have, however it is apparently reported that their troop army is malnourished. The soldiers lucky (and trusted) enough to be selected for the DMZ are made sure to be well-fed and muscley.

North Korea’s only major strategic advantage versus South Korea (but not the US) is its fleet of Submarines, which exceeds the South’s fleet many times over.

its own method of strike able to conquer any targets in its vicinity at one stroke

Meaning non-standard and somewhat dirty weapons such as chemical and nuclear weapons. North Korea uses these weapons as it’s normal doctrine.

3. For the present, we will not guarantee the legal status of the five islands under the south side’s control (Paekryong, Taechong, Sochong, Yonphyong and U islands) in our side’s territorial waters northwest of the extension of the Military Demarcation Line in the West Sea of Korea and safe sailing of warships of the U.S. imperialist aggression forces and the south Korean puppet navy and civilian ships operating in the waters around there.

Meaning a hypothetical militarily enforced incorporation (invasion) of those islands into North Korea and that civilian ships are not safe.

It is preposterous for the Lee group to have opted to fully participate in the PSI under the pretext of the underground nuclear test of the DPRK for self-defense.

It is nothing strange and quite natural for a nuclear weapons state to conduct a nuclear test.

Not entirely preposterous, because the main reason for the PSI is to prevent the trade of these nuclear weapons, so removing the naive-thinking propaganda and thinking logically, it makes sense that South Korea works toward preventing North Korea trading these weapons (and thus becoming terrorist payloads to further reaches of the world!)

Wouldn’t it be perfect for North Korea to arrange the detonation of a nuclear device in one of it’s unsuspecting enemies cities and not have the finger prints to prove that they did it.

Is this really how the North wants to show itself to the world? In the past, distasting regimes threw propaganda showing how their side was the best side, but North Korea’s nonsensical approach shows the world that it will murder civilians, be mercilessly aggressive, and that their late President Kim Il-Sung is the North Korean equivalant of God and Kim Jong-Il of Jesus.

As circumstances show, provocations of war on the part of the U.S. and South Korea have gone well beyond the risky level. It’s a matter of time when a fuse for war is triggered.

US and South Korea increase North Korea reconnaissance

May 28th, 2009

South Korean and American forces (based in the South) have raised their Watchcon (or ‘Watch Condition’) level to 2 – the highest being 1. This indicates that the mentioned forces are in defensive mode, embraced for a tactical and strategic response from a North Korean attack seeing as North Korea has been vocally aggressive just lately.

However there have been no significant signs of North Korean troop movement, even though North Korean has around a million troops stationed near the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone).

The allied forces have said that they will increase reconnaissance over North Korea and other means.

Other unrelated developments include the US positioning 12 F-22 Raptor fighters to a base in Okinawa, Japan, but US officials say this is not in response to North Korean activity.

North Korea ends truce with South Korea

May 27th, 2009
North and South Korea tension is at a new high

North and South Korea tension is at a new high

North Korea has torn up the truce that ended the Korean War in a ceasefire in the 1950’s which saw North Korea and it’s communist allies (China and Russia) versus South Korea and the UN mandate countries (mainly the US).

This comes amid high tensions in the region, but was triggered by the South’s plans to join the Proliferation Security Initiative which is aimed at curbing the North’s ability to export “weapons of mass destruction”. The North has stated that if the South searches any of it’s ships, then it would be a violation of it’s sovereignty – a declaration of war – and would respond with a “powerful military strike”.

“Any hostile act against our peaceful vessels including search and seizure will be considered an unpardonable infringement on our sovereignty and we will immediately respond with a powerful military strike”
North Korean army spokesman was quoted as saying by the official KCNA news agency.

North Korea now has nuclear capabilities

North Korea now has nuclear capabilities - seeing as it's recent second nuclear test was successful.

This is the highest tension that has been seen in the region for a long time and the chance of a military clash is real.

Russia has increased it’s military presence close to the border with North Korea in an apparent defensive measure – probably for use in case radioactive contamination occurs or a flood of refugees attempt to pour through the border.

It has also been noted that the North Korean Nuclear Plant at Yongbyon has been spotted by US spy satellites with steam coming out – meaning that it has been restarted.

North Korea , being one of the world’s most poorest, secretive and militarised countries in the world and the only stalinist dictatorship remaining, may see that it does not have much to lose.

The only path for North Korea’s political survival is one that is military, aggression, and bribery. The rest of the world has pursued open and capitalist ways and North Korea’s constitution and ideology is incompatible with the modern era. North Korea follows it’s founding fathers Kim Il Sung’s Juche (or ‘Self Reliance’) ideology and since the 90’s famine and subsequent economic collapse – Songun (‘Military First’) Policy. Just as the Soviet Union did, just as Iraq did, and just as China did, North Korea will eventually have to open up it’s trade to the world, enable freedom of speech, and allow political freedom.

North Korea once flourished thanks to the Soviet Union

North Korea once flourished thanks to the Soviet Union

North Korea once flourished under the banner of the Soviet Union’s rise of communism, being the industrial Korea, with the South being the agricultural side, however after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the fall of the North’s trading partners, and unfortunately timed floods which damaged the already delicate agricultural industry of North Korea, it suffered economic collapse and millions died of famine.

Today South Korea is one of the world’s most technologically advanced nations and enjoys decent economic growth, despite North Korea having thousands of artillery and rockets a buttons-push away from destroying South military targets and most controversially the South’s capital Seoul (and all of it’s civilian population).

We’ll see how this plays out, however North Korea and it’s unaware and seemingly hyponotised population won’t go down without a fight.
